Things My Sisters Did
As a kid I thought my sisters were the bees knees. They always let me play with them, they were so generous and I just had fun with them. I still find them very bees kneesy and I love them all so much. However, in hindsight there are a few things that weren't very bees kneesy of them.
1. They told me that we were going to play cops and robbers one day and took me and my fellow play mate (not Playmate, play mate) to the back yard. Play mate and I were robbers, my sisters and their friends were cops. Probably complete with my dad's aviators. They locked me and my friend in the dog run, bound and gagged, for a few hours. I could see them in the glass door playing and having fun inside from the dog run, but I assumed that's what the cops do in real life, so they were really just playing along.
2. They told me that they had just eaten dog biscuits and they were good. To prove it, Kellie showed me her tongue and it looked dog-biscuity to me, so I went ahead and had some too. I soon found out that it was not socially acceptable to eat dog treats, so I enjoyed them in secret for a few months after that.
3. They were sitting on the counters one afternoon with their friends eating sheets of Phyllo dough. They told me that it was actually Wax Paper, so I partook. It was delicious! I went back for some wax paper the next day. Fortunately this trick didn't result in my surreptitious eating of wax paper for the following months.
4. They put me in a kitchen chair, duct taped my legs and arms to said chair and set me laying down behind the couch so no one could find me.
5. They let me play hide and seek with them. While I was hiding in the back of my dad's old truck (if you've ever seen my dad's old trucks, you know they are not a beacon of cleanliness) my dad come over and said, "hey Jacksonolie (one of my nicknames), I don't think they're playing anymore, let's go inside for some cheese and crackers (This sounds like we were a very fancy family, and we were, squeezy cheese and Ritz withstanding)"
6. They bought me dresses from the Gap with their birthday gift cards.
7. They made me a huge banner to hold up at my high school graduation that said something to the effect of "Congratulations Jacquelina la Pinguina" (another nickname), and they cheered really loud and brought me flowers.
8. I came back from recess one day to find a Valentine's Day package on my desk. I was so excited. It was from them and my mom. They also woke me up to find little tiny leprechaun footprints all over my kitchen one year. My family does holidays quite well.
9. Kellie asked if she could write her phone number in Sharpie on my forehead. I said yes.
10. Stacey pretended to be news anchors with me in the car on the way to Utah. Along with going to Santa Fe, Explora, and all kinds of fun places one summer.
Being the youngest was awesome. I love all the memories I have of my sisters and I love them so much!

Story Time
About 5 years ago I was talking to my sister, Sarah. I guess first, I should give a little back story. I had been whining about boys and what terrible horrible mouth breathing fools they were. I hated them all and I was giving them up for good. I always took the time to get ready, straighten my hair, put on makeup, wear the least terrible looking thing I had in my closet, and still, the boy of my dreams (and there were many dreams, so it's really not the heartbreaking story I thought it was at the time...I can't even remember who's attention I was bemoaning not getting) would not give me the time of day. I could wear a meat suit made of bacon, and he probably wouldn't have looked my way. (Thank goodness Lady Gaga wasn't around at the time to inspire me). Something had to be wrong with me.
Anyway, back to my sister, Sarah. I asked her to tell me a story. Starting my story like this makes it sound like I was 5 years old, but I wasn't. I was at least...4 times that. (Saying this phrase reminds me of Derek Zoolander's Center For Children Who Can't Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too) So she told me this story, or something close to it.
One day there was a beautiful princess named Jackie. Jackie loved boys. She loved them so much, she wanted one of her very own. She dressed up in her finest attire and went to the mall. She walked her walk and talked her talk. No boys talked to her. She put on her cutest prom dress and did all the makeup tricks she learned at Dillard's over the weekend, and went to the movies and tried to look available. No boys talked to her. She went to the palace gardens in her finest ball gown. No boys talked to her. After the palace gardens, Jackie had had enough. She took off her makeup, put on her favorite soccer shorts and a t-shirt and went to the royal video store to get a movie. While she was looking through the videos, she went for her favorite, Better Off Dead (why she didn't own this hour and a half of hilarity, no one can be sure), her hand brushed the hand of a very handsome man going for the exact same 80's cult movie. He told her she was the most beautiful Better Off Dead fan he'd ever met. He asked her if she wanted watch the movie together on a date. She said yes, of course. They fell in love and got married and had pretty babies. The End.
Well, a few months later, after this lovely little story, I was done trying to impress everyone. I planned a group hike, everyone said they would come. The day before the hike, everyone cancelled on me except for one. A boy I had barely met for a few minutes at an activity that was here for the summer before going off to BYU after his mission. His name was Evan Ottesen. He was cute, but probably interested in my friend, so I didn't think anything of it. Having decided that I was done trying to impress people, I left for the hike makeup-less in my favorite soccer shorts and a t-shirt. Evan and I totally ended up hitting it off. We like similar music, he was funny, he wasn't awkward (surprising, since he had just come off the mission), he was polite and really fun to be around. He bought me lunch after the hike and made the day a date. I came home from the hike to find my sisters hanging out in the kitchen. I remember Sarah looking at me and saying, "you went on a hike with that guy looking like that?" Yes, I did. And we fell in love and got married. No pretty babies yet, but the rest of the prophecy was fulfilled, I'm sure the rest will come eventually.

Hobby Lobby + Free Time = Fun Halloween Crafts!
Ok, so I get really excited when I make things myself. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, I L.O.V.E. love it!
I made these for my fireplace to replace (for the month of October) the pictures that are normally there. Please excuse the poor quality of the photography.
I put it all together on my mantle and I think it looks pretty cute. I love Halloween!
*Have you been to Real Deals lately? I went ALL the way down to Alameda and 4th, got there and found a thrift store. What?! I know Real Deals is jam packed with crap, but this was not the whimsical, Americano crap I was looking for. This was just crap. So I looked it up and saw that they had moved to a place on Montano. Evan got on his iPhone (yes, I dragged him to Real Deals, but there was more fun stuff to do after the trip, I promise) and found it on his map and we went over to where the map directed us. Uh...this run down shack is the new home of Real Deals? It wasn't a far stretch from the previous home of Real Deals, but I didn't want to risk our safety by getting out of the car, so we went to Little Anita's instead. While at Little Anita's we looked up Real Deals again and realized we needed to be on the northeast side of Montano, not the slightly more ghetto northwest side. So, long story short, Real Deals moved to a much better, somewhat closer, location and I finally found it and purchased Halloween decor full of whimsy and loveliness.

Bride of Frankenstein
Spider
Witch on a Broomstick
Haunted House
I also got this little lovely from Real Deals* on Saturday to go with the crafts.
